About Pomegranate Global
Our Capabilities
Pomegranate Global was founded in 2016 by Ailsa Lamont, an education professional with 30 years of experience in international education, social innovation and capacity-building roles spanning more than 70 countries. The company provides a range of specialist training, events and programs designed to support the international education sector to reduce the carbon emissions in its operations and to embed climate action in all aspects of its work.
For 16 years she worked in a variety of roles starting in international recruitment and leading to international director and Pro Vice-Chancellor International roles at 3 Australian universities, including James Cook University, RMIT University and CQUniversity. Throughout this journey her portfolio covered the full range of internationalisation activities, from international strategy and global partnerships to international admissions and recruitment, transnational operations, ELICOS and learning abroad. Her experience includes leading Australia's largest international student operation at RMIT and successfully leading CQU's bid to become the first Australian university recognised by Ashoka U as a ‘changemaker campus’, a leader in social innovation education.
In 2017, Ailsa shifted her focus to climate, becoming a Climate Reality Leader by training with former US Vice-President Al Gore in Pittsburgh on how to communicate and catalyse action to tackle climate change. In 2019, she co-founded CANIE: Climate Action Network for International Educators, a grassroots initiative by and for professionals in international education who see the need and the opportunity for the sector to step up and take greater action on climate.
An accomplished speaker, Ailsa has presented, debated and facilitated events around the world.
In 2020, she was appointed a Senior Fellow 2020-2021 at NAFSA: Association of International Educators to support NAFSA in its aim to proactively to define, develop, support and integrate sustainable practices into its work and the field of international education
In the decade before joining the international education sector in 2001, Ailsa had a varied career working in economic development, trade promotion, and technology transfer in Eastern and Western Europe and the former USSR, as well as running an interpreting and translating business specialising in Russian. She has been an international student herself, studying in Germany and the USSR, and as recipient of an Endeavour Executive Award to Papua New Guinea. Her research and professional interests focus on the role of education providers in capacity-building in their communities, broadening access to education, tackling climate change, and study abroad as a catalyst for systems change.

Why a Pomegranate?
The pomegranate represents infinite possibilities - a multitude of seeds, each of which can burst into life if nurtured under the right conditions. The pomegranate also holds a powerful place in many different cultures where it is seen as embodying prosperity, and as a symbol of life and rebirth. |
