eco services for education providers
Want to understand more about climate change and what action you can take but not sure where to start? We make it easy for you by breaking down the big issues around climate change and carbon emissions into easily digestible, bite-sized chunks tailored to your business needs, supporting you to make your operations more sustainable and to engage your students in finding solutions.
Our services include:
The Earth Optimism Lab - half-day and full-day workshops and innovation challenges focused on climate action to give students a clear overview of the causes of climate change and its impact, and what action they can personally take to make a difference. It combines the skills development and knowledge acquisition of a workshop with the space for creative problem-solving of a hackathon: creating a forum for students to experiment with solutions in a collaborative environment, hence the 'Lab': a place conducive to experimentation and investigation.
The Lab showcases positive innovations and action and guides participants towards practical solutions and connections that empower them to make a difference. The innovation challenge takes a human-centred design approach where participants get to think laterally and come up with ideas to tackle global warming and carbon emissions. In the innovation challenge, students build their skills in complex problem-solving, critical thinking and creativity: the top three skills needed for a successful career by 2020 according to the recent Future of Jobs survey of global business leaders by the World Economic Forum.
Climate Launch Pad - a 1-hour introductory module for new students to give them a grounding in climate change issues and guide them to be part of the solution. Ideal for inclusion in student leadership and orientation programs.
Eco Health Check – working with you to help your institution cut your carbon footprint, the Eco Health Check assesses how green your operations are and delivers you a plan of action including student-led projects, staff development and offsetting. Drawing on extensive experience in the university sector, this service guides you to integrate recommendations into your mainstream student programs and operations - making it easy for you to make the changes you need.
Tailored events and services – Pomegranate Global training sessions, workshops and innovation challenges can all be tailored to meet your needs. They can even be used for a variety of audiences - think team building and staff development days, or even alumni events.

Why is this so important?
We love international education but did you know that an unfortunate by-product of all that global mobility is the extra carbon emissions from flights (by staff and students). In 2014, the extra emissions just from air travel for new university students arriving in Australia, was estimated at 1,444,451 CO₂e tonnes*.
Planting enough trees to offset that would cost over AU$20 million and fill a space the size of Sydney Harbour. Put another way, that's 24 trees per student just to stand still.
At Pomegranate Global, we believe we can do something about that, and we can do it in ways that benefit students and institutions at the same time as helping the planet.
